1678 Born 4 March, in Venice; the son of a violinist in the orchestra at the church of St. Mark, Venice
1703 Ordained a priest. Named musical director at the Pio Ospedale della Pietà, Venice, an orphanage for girls; he holds the position for almost 40 years
1705 First works are published, a set of 12 trio sonatas
1713 Production of his first opera, Ottone in Villa
1725 Publishes The Four Seasons
1734 Begins operatic collaboration with the famous Venetian playwright Carlo Goldoni
1738 Visits Amsterdam to direct performances of his music
1740 Leaves Ospedale - his contract is not renewed partly because of absences
1741 Travels to Vienna, hoping for a court appointment. Dies 28 July in Vienna; buried in a pauper's grave
