- Glossary definition: Ensemble
(French, meaning 'together')

A group of performers, either singers or instrumentalists, who regularly play together. This is often a small group, such as a trio or quartet, which is not large enough to be called a choir or orchestra. The word is also used to describe the quality of teamwork in a group of players, as in "their ensemble is good". A third meaning describes an operatic piece in which two or more singers sing together.
