HumanitiesWeb.org - Glossary definition: Bagpipe
Bagpipe

One of the oldest musical instruments. Its distinctive penetrating tone comes from a reed pipe, operated by finger stops, that is sounded by air forced out of the bag through the pipe by the player's arm. The reservoir of air in the bag permits notes to be played continuously. Some characteristics, for instance the source of wind supply, may vary in bagpipes.
