The Mother and Sister of the Artist

The Lecture

1869-70: National Gallery of Art at Washington D.C.

Painted for the Salon of 1780 and retouched by Manet against Morisot's wishes, this portrait shows Mme. Morisot reading to her daughter, Edma. The latter had recently married, and had come home to have her first child.
