The Cradle

|
One of the few successes of the first Impressionist exhibition, The Cradle appealed as much by virtue of its subject matter as by its style. What is essentially a portrait of Morisot's sister, Edma, looking at her newly-born second child, can also be seen as being somewhat in the tradition of a 19th-century sentimental painting. |
