The Cradle

Buy now from allposters.com1872: Musée d'Orsay, Paris

One of the few successes of the first Impressionist exhibition, The Cradle appealed as much by virtue of its subject matter as by its style. What is essentially a portrait of Morisot's sister, Edma, looking at her newly-born second child, can also be seen as being somewhat in the tradition of a 19th-century sentimental painting.
