Night Cafe

Buy now from barewalls.com1888: Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven CT

In van Gogh's words, this painting was painted to express "the most terrible passion of humanity by means of red and green" Done in "blood red", Night Cafe is a deeply disturbing picture. The abrupt, tipped-up view of the red room with its dazzling lights and hot colours is both strange and menacing, a vision of latent evil.
