Jupiter & Antiope

1715: Louvre, Paris

Watteau did a few very Italianate paintings after spending some time studying the works of Titian, Giaconom Bassano, Campagnola. This is an excellent example of this phase with the contrast between the white flesh of the nymph and the brawny copper male nude.
