Idle 'Prentice Returned from Sea and in a Garrett with a Common Prostitute

:

Tom Idle is a nervous wreck. In bed with a prostitute, he is terrified by the sound of a cat chasing a rat down the chimney. He thinks the noise is made by the police, against whom he has barricaded the doors. Tom has grown sick of the sea and taken up highway robbery, as the pistols on the floor indicate. The prostitute, who does not let noises bother her, has Tom's loot spread around her. She displays a morbid interest in an earring in the shape of a gallows, which she holds aloft.
