This nativity includes not only the adoration of the shepherds, but also the legend of the midwives. According to an apocryphal Gospel, Joseph summoned the midwives (one of whom has a paralysed right hand) in a moment of anxiety. One of the phylacteries bears the words "Tangue puerum et sanabaris" (touch the child and you will be healed) |
