Apollo and Daphne

~1625: Galleria Borghese, Rome

Here Bernini captures a dramatic moment in Greek mythology. Daphne turns into a laurel tree after praying to her father (the river god Peneus) to deliver her from the lustful clutches of Apollo, her smitten brother-in-law.
