David

1624: Galleria Borghese, Rome

The dynamic energy of this life-sized stature exemplifies the Baroque style in sculpture. Here, the Hebrew hero dramatically enters the space of the viewer by twisting around, readying himself to hurl the fatal rock at Goliath. The frown of concentration and furrow in David's brow convey the sense of drama more acutely than his energetic posture.
