The Lacemaker

Buy now from barewalls.com1670: Musée du Louvre, Paris

This small painting presents all the qualities that distinguish Vermeer's work: a serene study of a woman engaged in an everyday task, a harmonious blue and yellow chromatic scale, and most of all, a sense of immediacy. Signed "I Meer" to the right of the woman's head, this piece was bought for the collection oif Napoleon II in 1870.
