The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne

Buy now from barewalls.com1510: Musée du Louvre, Paris

An earlier version of the subject included St. John the Baptist while here he is replaced with the Lamb. Here we see the Virgin - perched firmly on her mother's lap - trying to keep the Christ Child away from the Lamb (which, according to some, signifies the Passion), while her mother, St. Anne, discourages the Virgin from interfering in Christ's destiny.
