Ecole Royales des Eleves Protegis

This school was founded in 1748 to train young artists and prepare them for the Rome prize competition at the Academy. Run under the supervision of Charles Coypel, the school's main focus was on ancient Greek and Roman history and mythology, and outside students were allowed to sit in on the lectures. The school was closed in 1775 because the Academy no longer felt it was worthwhile and that it competed with its own courses.
