Synesthesia

The conflation of the senses, such as when we refer to a colour as "loud" (mixing sight and sound) or a scent as "sharp" (mixing smell and touch). A good example can be found in Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum Est when he describes the soldiers a "Drunk with fatigue" and refers to "smothering dreams".
