Barbizon School
About 1848, one of the earliest groups of French artists to work outside the Academy was forming. Theodore Rousseau and Jean-Francois Millet, among others, abandoned the upheavals of revolutionary Paris for the serenity of the Forest of Fontainebleau near the village of Barbizon. Inspired by Constable, Realists as well as to the Impressionists.
