1776 Born Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann in Köningsberg on 24 January
1779 Parents divorce, he is brought up by an uncle
1792 Studies law at Königsberg University
1800 Accepts post as a law officer in Prussia's Polish provinces
1806 Goes to Bamberg to work as a conductor, music director, and in the theatre
1813 Changes his third name, Wilhelm, to Amadeus in homage to Mozart
1814 Returns to law work
1816 Attains a high position in the Supreme Court in Berlin
1882 Dies 25 June in Berlin, from progressive paralysis
