1935 His mother dies suddenly
1943 Begins to learn the violin
1955 Enrols in a five-year course in composition at the Katowice Conservatory
1957 Pursues his studies in Paris, with the eminent French composer Olivier Messiaen
1960 Wins first prize in the competition of the Polish Composer's Union for his solo vocal piece Monologhi
1973 Awarded first prize in the UNESCO Competition in Paris
1975 Appointed Rector of Katowice Conservatory
1979 Beatus Vir performed at Kraków, during Pope John Paul II's visit to Poland
1992 Receives the Award of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Warsaw
