1827 Falls in love with an Irish actress, Harriet Smithson
1830 Congratulated by Liszt after the premiere of Symphonie fantastique; wins the Prix de Rome and travels to Italy
1833 Marries Harriet Smithson; Paganini commissions symphony Harold in Italy
1842 Embarks on first of several long concert tours abroad
1843 Writes famous treatise on orchestration
1854 Wife Harriet, from whom he has been separated for many years, dies; marries the singer Marie Recio
1865 Completes his Memoirs, to be published after his death
1869 Dies 8 March, in Paris
