1867 Marries cousin Nina Hagerup, a gifted singer
1870 Second visit to Italy; meets Liszt
1874 Granted government pension in recognition of his work
1885 Settles in Troldhaugen
1889 Visits Paris for concerts of his music; elected to French Academy of Arts
1894 Visits England; receives honorary doctorate from Cambridge University
1907 Dies at home on 4 September
