1830 Born in Dresden, Germany, 8 January
1850 After hearing Wagner's Lohengrin at Weimar under Liszt's direction, he begins studies with Liszt
1853 Tours as a concert pianist
1855 Heads the piano department at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin
1857 Marries Liszt’s daughter Cosima
1864 Becomes director of music at the Munich court
1866 Cosima leaves Bülow for Wagner
1877 He conducted at Hannover
1880 Appointed conductor of the ducal orchestra at Meiningen
1893 Leaves for Cairo because of his failing health.
1894 Dies in Cairo, Egypt on 12 February
