1852 Born 1 April in Philadelphia
1866 Studies under Isaac L. Williams
1868 Attends classes in drawing at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
1870 Beginning of long association with Harper's, New York publishers
1878 Goes to England to produce illustrations for a serialised work in Harper's
1880 Returns to the United States for 8 months, then settles in England permanently
1885 Begins exhibiting at the Royal Academy
1890 Marries
1890 Receives commission for the Holy Grail murals at the Boston Public Library
1891 Settles at Morgan Hall, Fairford
1896 Becomes ARA
1898 Becomes RA
1901 Elected President of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists
1908 Supervises the painting of the murals in the East Corridor of the Palace of Westminster
1911 Dies 1 August
