1887 Born Jose Victoriano Gonzalez on 13 March in Madrid
1902 Studies at Escuela de Artes y Manufacturas in Madrid
1904 Studies under José Maria Carbonero
1906 To avoid military conscription he moves to Paris, adopts name 'Juan Gris'. While there he becomes friends with Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, and Pablo Picasso
1912 Exhibits at the Salon des Indépendants
1914 Becomes friends with Henri Matisse
1922 First designs ballet sets and costumes for Sergei Diaghilev
1927 Dies 11 May in Boulogne-sur-Seine
