A fall in May (and another in August of 1879) result in both legs being broken. Neither leg heals properly, thought to be the result of a rare bone disease |

Passes his baccalaureate in Toulouse, travels to Paris |
| 1882 |
Attends studio of Léon Bonnat for a short period, then the studio of Fernand Cormon |
| 1888 |
Lautrec exhibits his work with "Les Vingt" (The Twenty), a group of modernist artists based in Brussels |
| 1889 |
Shows, for the first time, at the Salon des Independants |
| 1897 |
Lautrec's increasing dementia forces his family to commit him to a mental hospital |
| 1901 |
Suffers a stroke and is temporarily paralysed, dies 9 September |
