1864 Born 24 November in Albi
1872 Attends Lycée Fontanes in Paris
1875 Leaves school for health reasons - spends a year in a clinic in Neuilly
1878 A fall in May (and another in August of 1879) result in both legs being broken. Neither leg heals properly, thought to be the result of a rare bone disease
1881 Passes his baccalaureate in Toulouse, travels to Paris
1882 Attends studio of Léon Bonnat for a short period, then the studio of Fernand Cormon
1888 Lautrec exhibits his work with "Les Vingt" (The Twenty), a group of modernist artists based in Brussels
1889 Shows, for the first time, at the Salon des Independants
1897 Lautrec's increasing dementia forces his family to commit him to a mental hospital
1901 Suffers a stroke and is temporarily paralysed, dies 9 September
