1720s Studies under his father, Antoine Vernet, then with J. Viali and P. Sauvan in Aix
1734 Travels to Rome
1743 Elected to the Accademia di S Luca
1745 Marries Virginia Parker, daughter of a captain in the papal navy
1746 First exhibition at the Salon - he exhibits regularly until his death
1750 Receives his first commission from the French Crown
1753 Becomes a full member of the Académie Royale
1753 Commissioned by Louis XV to paint a series of the sea-ports of France
1753 Returns to Paris
1778 Visits Switzerland with Marigny
1789 Dies 3 December in Paris
