1167 Born 24 December to Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine
1173 Betrothed to the heiress of Maurienne and Savoy; mother imprisoned by Henry
1176 Betrothed to Isabella, the heiress of the earldom of Gloucester
1177 Granted the lordship of Ireland
1185 Travels to Ireland to take up governing there - returns within a few months
1189 Conspires with his brothers and the French king Philip Augustus against his father; Henry II dies, and Richard I takes the throne; marries Isabella of Gloucester
1190 Richard recognises Arthur of Brittany as heir to the throne
1193 John conspires to take the throne while Richard is away
1194 Richard I returns, John is banished and all his lands are taken from him; reconciles with Richard a few months later
1200 Divorces Isabella of Gloucester and marries Isabella of Angoulême
1202 Captures his nephew and rival to the throne - Arthur of Brittany at Mirebeau; loses Normandy, Anjou, Maine and parts of Poitou to Philip
1203 Arthur of Brittany disapears, it is suspected that he was murdered at John's command
