1830 Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, 10 December
1840 Attends Amherst Academy until 1847
1847 Attends Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley for one year
1855 Goes to Washington, D.C., with her sister to visit their father, who was serving in Congress.
1862 Initiates correspondence with Thomas Wentworth Higginson
1864 Failing eyesight causes her to make two extended visits to Cambridge, Massachusetts for medical treatment
1874 Father dies
1882 Mother dies
1883 Roberts Brothers publishing house tries to get the poet to submit a volume of poems for publication; she declines
1886 Dies in Amherst on 15 May, from kidney disease
