Hunters in the Snow

Buy now from barewalls.com1565: Kunsthistorisches Museum at Vienna

This atmospheric work was part of a series of six paintings representing months of the year. In this painting, the winter snow shrouds a Flemish countryside that curiously abuts the jagged cliffs of the Alps. The painter defies the dictates of realism in order to solve the compositional need to balance the white diagonal mass of the hillside in the foreground.
