The Women in the Garden

Two photographs taken at the home of Bazille, near Montpellier, were the starting point for this painting. Women in the Garden was refused by the Salon of 1867, and later purchased by Bazille. The women are all modelled on his then mistress, later wife, Camille Doncieux.
