Madame Valpincon with Chrysanthemums

1865: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

Despite its title, the flowers in this painting include yellow and red sunflowers, gaillardia, marguerites, cornflowers and dahlias, with only a few chrysanthemums. The figure was added to what had been solely a still life, and the original date (1858) is still discernible.
