Winter 1946 depicts a lone neighbourhood boy running down a hill within sight of the Chadds Ford railroad crossing where Wyeth's father had been killed the previous year. The tempera, loaded with personal symbols of Wyeth's admiration for his father, was the first painting he did after his father's death.
