1409 Struggles for the pontifical throne between Gregory XII, Benedict XIII, and Alexander V cause much upheaval. Fra Angelico takes refuge at a convent in Umbria
1414 Plague outbreaks in Umbria force Fra Angelico to flee Umbria - he moves to Cortona
1418 Enters a Dominican convent in Fiesole
1418 Returns to Fiesole
1420 Begins career as an illustrator of manuscripts
1425 Becomes a friar using the name Giovanni da Fiesole
1436 Moves with some of the Dominican friars of Fiesole to the convent of San Marco in Florence
1445 Summoned to Rome by Pope Eugenius IV to paint frescoes for the Chapel of the Sacrament in the Vatican
1450 Becomes Prior at S. Domenico in Fiesole
1455 Dies 18 February in Rome
