1810 Born 22 February, at Zelazowa Wola, near Warsaw, the son of a French father and Polish mother
1817 Starts piano lessons; first attempts at composition
1822 Takes advanced studies with Joseph Elsner, director of Warsaw Conservatory
1825 Performs for Russian Tsar Alexander I
1829 Leaves Conservatory and begins concert tour of Europe
1831 Arrives in Paris; meets Liszt
1838 Begins affair with French novelist Aurore Dudevant, better known by the male pseudonym George Sand
1839 Spends winter in Majorca with Sand; health declines
1847 Affair with Sand ends. Illness diagnosed as tuberculosis
1849 Concert tour of British Isles, which leaves him mortally ill. Dies in Paris, 17 October
