1606 Born Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn on 15 July in Leiden
1613 Attends Latin School
1620 Enrolled at the University of Leiden
1624 Studies under Jacob Isaacszoon van Swanenburgh and Pieter Lastman
1625 Returns to Leiden and opens own studio
1631 Moved to Amsterdam
1634 Becomes a member of the Guild of St. Luke
1634 Marries Saskia van Uylenburgh
1635 Over the next 6 years, 3 of the 4 children born to Saskia and Rembrandt die, only Titus survives
1642 Saskia dies
1649 Engages Hendrickje Stoffels as housekeeper (she eventually becomes his common-law wife)
1656 Declares bankruptcy
1657 Moves to Roozengracht where he lives with friends
1660 Hendrickje and Titus set up an art-dealing business in order to provide Rembrandt with protection against his creditors
1663 Hendrichje dies
1668 Son Titus dies, Rembrandt moves in with daughter-in-law Magdalena van Loo
1669 Dies 4 October in Amsterdam
